MAMARONECK, NY — There may be no more enjoyable way to explore the American songbook than at a free outdoor concert this Wednesday from the musicians who have studied the uniquely Americana rock roots with transformative results.

Concerts in the Park will be bringing Hollis Brown and Bruce T. Carroll to Lanza Field in Harbor Island Park on Wednesdsay at 7 p.m.

Following the band's successful Ozone Park in 2019, which earned positive reviews from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Paste Magazine, Pop Matters, Relix, and Goldmine, Hollis Brown, a Queens-based quintet, escaped to the Poconos to record their latest album. In The Aftermath is described as "the deliciously depraved outcome of an all-night rock n' roll riot." The bandmates admit there was some whiskey involved when they retraced the Stones' 1966 Aftermath, live in the studio with few overdubs.

This was the band's second in a casual homage series. They previously recorded Gets Loaded, to salute Velvet Underground's Loaded.

Hollis Brown was formed in 2009 by singer-guitarist Mike Montali and lead guitarist Jonathon Bonilla. They based their band name on the Bob Dylan song, "Ballad of Hollis Brown," which reflects the band's "commitment to melding a signature Americana blend with fine songcraft." The band is rounded out by Andrew Zehnal on drums, Chris Urriola on bass and Adam Boch on keyboards.

With his release of First Bird To Sing, Bruce T. Carroll has "continued to carve out a niche for himself as an Americana artist with a social conscience and a deft lyrical touch." He operated the legendary Watercolor Café for fourteen years (1999-2013) in Larchmont, where he presented regional and national acts, as well as new and undiscovered acts before they broke upon the national scene. While the café was a labor of love for Carroll, it kept him from pursuing his first love and passion, lyric songwriting.

No tickets/reservations are needed. Be sure to bring your own drinks, along with a chair or blanket. Food trucks will also be on-site.

Parking will be free at Harbor Island Park after 4:30 p.m. The rain date will be Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m.

Concerts in the Park is presented by the Emelin Theatre, the Mamaroneck Arts Council and the Village of Mamaroneck Parks Department. Sponsors for the event are Con Edison Arts Al Fresco, Arts Westchester, WP Hospital and M&T Bank.
