VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK, NY — A terrifying domestic violence incident was brought to an end after a brief standoff, according to police.

The Village of Mamaroneck Police Department says that on Sunday, around 6:07 p.m., officers responded to a home after receiving a report of an intoxicated man with a knife. The 26-year-old woman who called told police she had locked herself in a room and was unable to leave due to her brother's violent, threatening behavior, police said.

Once at the address, officers made contact with the man, 28-year-old Jorge Cerna, of Mamaroneck. He was armed with a knife and was threatening to harm himself and the officers, according to police.

Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation with Cerna for around 10 minutes, asking him to peacefully surrender.

During the negotiation, Cerna placed the blade to his throat, and approached the officers with the knife. Officers then used a Taser, which temporarily incapacitated Cerna long enough for him to safely be placed in custody, police said.

EMS took Cerna to White Plains Hospital for medical treatment and a psychological evaluation.

Police say that no family members were harmed during the incident. A Domestic Incident report was completed, and Cerna was arrested under New York State mandatory Family Offense provisions, according to police.

He was charged with felony first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and misdemeanor second-degree menacing.

Cerna is currently being held in a secure psychiatric facility. Once released, he will be taken into custody by Village of Mamaroneck officers to be processed and arraigned, police said. A temporary order of protection will be issued, according to officials.
