LARCHMONT, NY — What started as a way to support local artists and draw customers to Larchmont's retail districts has grown into something of a Hudson Valley institution.

The Larchmont Chamber of Commerce will once again be hosting Arts on the Avenues, a month-long exhibition in April featuring the works of Westchester artists displayed at local businesses, with a kickoff celebration on Saturday, April 1, from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.

The collaboration will create a strolling gallery in the two Larchmont business districts with several special events scheduled throughout the month.

"Bringing this art event to Larchmont has helped to nurture local Westchester artists while providing a creative way for merchants to find new customers and it’s had a residual effect on the community beyond the month-long event," Creative Director of Arts on the Avenues Laura Saravia said.

The free, family-friendly celebration of the arts will take place rain or shine.

Organizers say that there will be 25 business and artist pairings, with each business focusing on an artist and their works. In addition, there will be interactive art activities and workshops, a "Find the Artist" month-long scavenger hunt, guided walking tours, artist & curator talks, and a raffle/closing reception.

"Arts on the Avenues was conceived to support the local artist community and attract visitors/shoppers/diners to Larchmont," Larchmont Chamber of Commerce President and owner of The Flower Bar explained. "The month-long event has succeeded beyond our expectations, attracting audiences from all over Westchester to see, learn and buy in our wonderful downtown."

Artwork on display will include paintings, drawings, photographs, mixed media and sculpture.

On Saturday, April 1, a kickoff event will be held from noon - 2 p.m. in the Larchmont Library. Guided tours will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. An Artist & Curator Talk will take place at Julia B. Fee Realty, located at 1910 Palmer Ave., from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A "Sew Happy" workshop will take place from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
