Mamaroneck Juneteenth Celebration Promises 'Fun, Culture and Freedom'
Organizers say the festival created by local Black leaders will be centered on the 5 pillars of food, family, music, education and faith.

MAMARONECK, NY — A "Promises of Freedom: Honoring our Past, Present, and Future" festival, organized by OneMamaroneck, has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 8, from noon - 6 p.m. in Columbus Park. The community is invited to join in on "a day of fun, culture, and freedom."
Juneteenth is about the acknowledgment that the people enslaved in Texas were finally notified on June 19, 1865, that they were free according to the Emancipation Proclamation that was signed on January 1, 1863.

This year's celebration in Mamaroneck will honor the Mothers of Black Community for the past; Jarrett Winchester, Larry Albert, David Vaughn, Rhunette Mitchell, and Lavet Allen as the Present, and the Multicultural Student Union and the BIPOC Student Union at Mamaroneck High School for the Future.
Organizers say this festival was conceived by African-American and Black leaders from Mamaroneck and will be centered on the five pillars of food, family, music, education and faith.

Saturday's event will have food vendors, music, a basketball tournament, outdoor games and drumming.
