MAMARONECK, NY — Mamaroneck officials are warning of the possibility of flooding this afternoon and evening with more rain in the forecast.

A disturbance will swing towards the area and this will result in an increase of showers and storms as we progress through the afternoon, according to an alert issued by the village.

According to the latest from the National Weather Service, much of the Hudson Valley can expect a "marginal" risk of flooding this evening.

Village officials aren't taking any chances and are urging caution, especially for those who live or travel through flood-prone areas of town.

"Any showers/storms will be capable of producing high rainfall rates while not moving all that fast. This, combined with sensitive grounds due to recent heavier rainfall will result in an increased risk for poor drainage/roadway flooding," the Village of Mamaroneck said in an alert issued Thursday afternoon. "And where repeated downpours occur, localized instances of flash flooding could result as rainfall totals can quickly reach up to 2 inches. Also, some streams/creeks can become an issue as well. The main threat for flooding concerns will be between 3 - 8 PM, but this will be highly dependent on how fast this disturbance exits as the moist air mass in place will linger until a cold front sweeps through late tonight. And although there may be a few early showers tomorrow, the weather improves through our Friday morning."

According to the forecast, the wet weather over the next few hours will usher in a period of low humidity and pleasant temperatures.

"Residents will also notice a drop in humidity levels with overnight lows in the 50s for most East Coast cities by Saturday when compared to the overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s felt on Wednesday," AccuWeather meteorologist Nicole LoBiondo predicts.
