Pop-up Art Gallery Coming Soon To Historic Seaside Manor Home

"Art in the Yard - Outside In: Textures and Abstractions" will use the stunning Larchmont home as a part of the artistic exploration.

Does the art create the gallery or is the gallery art? In this case, perhaps both.

LARCHMONT, NY — The works of art on display at an upcoming pop-up gallery will have a remarkable space to compete with for attention.

The BAM Art Advisory, an independent contemporary art consultancy headed by art consultant and Larchmont resident Brooke Molinaroli, will be launching "Outside In: Textures and Abstractions." The opening will mark the second edition of the "Art in the Yard" outdoor art series, created in collaboration with Stephen Moser, a Westchester-based architect.

"I’m hopeful that 'Outside In: Textures and Abstractions' solidifies this new paradigm and provides a platform that challenges art world norms and overrides barriers," Molinaroli said. "Also, I was inspired to bring art to Larchmont so that residents can experience great contemporary art and culture here and see and form new connections."

The 2022 edition of the "Art in the Yard" series promises to "feature a re-imagined outdoor design to reflect the exhibition focus, as well as the zeitgeist: people’s ability to move more freely and safely from outdoors to indoors." To accomplish this goal, the pop-up gallery design will make use of a Larchmont historical home's wrap-around front porch and outdoor bluestone patio space to allow for a seamless flow between inside and outside.

The free exhibition will be just steps away from the waterfront harbor and will feature many works of art not previously shown, museum-quality artists, a purposeful indoor staging of art, commissioned murals, outdoor sculptures, tactile and architectural building material outdoors to reflect the theme over ten days, organizers promise.

The unique theme of this year's event was not by happenstance.

In response to another year of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting our ability to create personal connections and satisfy the human desire to touch, founder/curator Brooke Molinaroli said, "I’ve been personally drawn to tactile and abstract artwork over the last year.” She explained that texture in art can be actual, simulated, abstract, or invented. Even if a surface is smooth, the work can still evoke a sense of touch or texture through illusion, depth, perspective, or technique.

In keeping with this theme, the artists in this exhibition use a wide variety of materials, including wool, velcro, paper, fabric, thread, silk, folded paper and heavy paint to make viewers want to reach out and touch. Some pieces will evoke handmade crafts and traditional women’s work in the home. Although we can’t touch the work, we will be able to use our imagination to “feel” the work.

Commissioned wall murals by Daniel Carello, an outdoor sculpture by Fritz Horstman and a NFT collection by Studio Zarebinski projected outdoors on scrim-like material, will be included outdoors. The outdoor gallery spaces will also reflect the period architectural elements of the home, including paint color, lighting and textural materials. The intent is to make the viewing experience similar to a comfortable home environment inside and outside.

Molinaroli collaborated with SMA (Stephen Moser's architecture firm) on the gallery design tailored to the architecture of the historical home to create a seamless flow between the outdoor art spaces, including the front porch gallery, tent, yard and the curated rooms on the first floor of the home. The wrap-round front porch will have a diaphanous scrim material covering the full porch, alluding to the renowned artist Christo who was known to wrap famous buildings.

With a background in brand and digital marketing combined with museum and gallery work, Molinaroli established BAM Art Advisory in January 2018. She said she is drawn to representing emerging and mid-career artists who work in a variety of mediums. This project builds on the success of her last "Art in the Yard" exhibition, which saw more than 600 people attend the show and she hopes to make it bigger and better with new artists and work, a new thematic focus and a fresh design tailored to the current times.

BAM Art will be collaborating with Massey Klein Gallery and Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in presenting some of these artists. Featured artists in the exhibition will include Ky Anderson, Frances Ashforth, Kevin Francis, Rose Frisenda, Sarah Hinckley, Hue Thi Hoffmaster, Fritz Horstman, Justin N. Kim, Matt Larson, Elena Lyakir, Sasha Lytvyn, Caleb Nussear, Anna Moser, Dora Somosi, Leigh Wells, Jean Wolff and Zarebinski. Exhibiting artists will be on hand to discuss work and speak with patrons and guests.

High-resolution images of artwork and renderings by Stephen Moser Architect are available by request. All presented work will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $1500 - $10,000 per work. At the exhibition’s conclusion, artwork will be transferred inside and re-hung salon style throughout the home. Work will be available for viewing by appointment from June 13 to July 1.

The "Outside In: Textures and Abstractions" exhibition will run from June 3 to June 12 at 31 Larchmont Ave. in Larchmont. The opening rain date will be June 4. More information can be found on the BAM Art website.
