'Seek Higher Ground' Flooding Worsens, Village Begins Evacuations
Mamaroneck officials are urging residents of homes near the Mamaroneck River and other flood-prone areas to "vacate now."

MAMARONECK, NY — As the rains from Henri continue to overwhelm drainage in the lower Hudson Valley and flooding worsens, at least one Sound Shore village is evacuating residents from low-lying areas.
In an alert sent to residents shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Village of Mamaroneck officials advised those living near the Sheldrake River in the Washingtonville and Harbor Heights residents near the Mamaroneck River, as well as all residents who live in low-lying, flood-prone areas, to evacuate and seek higher ground immediately.

"We encourage you to vacate your homes now and seek shelter with others who are in safer, higher ground areas," the announcement from the village reads. "We anticipate making another announcement in the next few hours. Until then, if you live in a low-lying, flood prone area, please evacuate and seek higher ground."
According to the emergency scanner, as reported by Mamaroneck Fire Wire, a call was made to help evacuate residents of ten homes in the area of First Street near the Mamaroneck River.

"We are now experiencing extensive flooding throughout Mamaroneck," Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy said in a statement released just before 9 p.m. Sunday. "The usual flood prone areas are becoming inundated. There are still many hours of rain ahead of us. The Village is in the process of preparing to evacuate residents who need assistance. Our first responders are doing their work in their usual exemplary fashion. If you are in a dangerous situation and need help immediately call 911."
