Shell Station Fight Leads To Stolen Car From Ohio, 2 Arrested: VMPD

A Florida man paid a visit to the Hudson Valley over the holiday weekend and it looks like he will be staying for a while.

MAMARONECK, NY — The holiday weekend started off a with a buzz of excitement in Mamaroneck, but with the help of a few other jurisdictions, police soon brought an odd incident to heel.

On Friday, at 9:25 a.m., the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department received a complaint from a witness who reported that a man and a woman were fighting at the Shell Gas Station on Mamaroneck Ave. The witness told the couple that he was going to call the police and they immediately fled the scene, police said.

Officers responding to the scene located a 2018 Ford Focus with an Ohio registration abandoned at the gas station. Police soon discovered that the car had been reported stolen in Akron, Ohio on Aug. 31.

Officers from the Larchmont Police Department, the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department, the City of Rye Police Department, MTA Police, New York State Police, the Harrison Police Department, and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety assisted with the investigation and began looking for the suspects.

At 9:48 a.m, an officer was flagged down by someone who told police that the male suspect had just tried to steal a vehicle in the 400 block of Mamaroneck Avenue.

At 9:51 a.m., officers located that male suspect on West Boston Post Road and placed him under arrest. He was identified as 34-year-old Rafael Castillo from Kissimmee, Florida. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, robbery, and criminal mischief.

Moments later, at 9:59. a.m, officers located the female suspect on Willow Street and placed her under arrest. The female suspect was identified as 32-year-old Megan Vallee from Akron, Ohio. She was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

Both were arraigned in Village of Mamaroneck Court and due to their extensive criminal history, were remanded to the Westchester Department of Corrections, police said.

"Another great example of numerous police agencies working together to keep our communities safe," the Mamaroneck Police Benevolent Association said in a statement released on social media.
