2 Officers Injured During Traffic Stop In Levittown: Police

Dashawn Thompson faces that include assault and resisting arrest, police said.

LEVITTOWN, NY — A Levittown man has been arrested for an assault on Thursday night in Levittown, police said.

Officers observed a white 2014 Maserati traveling southbound on Gardiners Avenue, just after 10:30 p.m., with a plate cover obstructing the rear license plate, police said.

A traffic stop was conducted in a parking lot on Gardiners Avenue. During the investigation, the front passenger exited the vehicle and proceeded to walk away from officers, authorities said.

Officers were able to make contact with the man who was visibly nervous, police said.

The investigation revealed that Dashawn Thompkins, 47, intentionally gave the officers an incorrect name and birthday, police said.

Thompson was also in violation of two active orders of protection, one from the female driver and one from the male passenger, police said.

Thompson fled on foot and after a brief foot pursuit, two officers sustained injuries as Thompson got violent and combative while resisting arrest, police said.

One officer sustained multiple rib fractures and a fractured wrist and the second oficer sustained minor injuries, police said.

Thompkins is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree criminal contempt, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and false personation, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
