LEVITTOWN, NY — Fifth graders in Levittown who mailed hundreds of letters of encouragement to people fighting cancer got a "thank you" of a lifetime Wednesday when nearly three dozen of the recipients stopped by Abbey Lane Elementary School.

Students in Richard Schwartz's class mailed letters to more than 700 people around the world as part of the Schwartzville Project. Letters are sent to survivors and those battling cancer.

On Wednesday, the school held a pink bagel breakfast for about 35 recipients. The guests received their letters and got to watch an informational video the class created highlighting cancer research.
