From the Desk - SAT Course

Weekly letter to the community from Charles Murphy.

Submitted by Charles Murphy, Superintendent of the Island Trees School District.

Dear Island Trees School Community,

Last year, I wrote about the potential benefits of our new SAT course at Island Trees High School - SAT Preparation.  Again, this course is highly recommended to all of our juniors in preparation for this rigorous springtime assessment.

Since that point, many people have asked me how the students performed on the May and June assessments. For the last four years, Island Trees students have averaged 479 Reading, 476 Writing, and 500 Mathematics on their SAT exams.   This spring our junior students averaged 497 May Reading/499 June Reading, 494 May Writing/509 June Writing, and 517 May Mathematics/526 June Mathematics.  The May exam was 53 points higher compared to the four-year average and the June assessment increased by 79 points.  In fact for the first time, our junior students outperformed state and national averages in the three sub-categories.

As a result, we continue to recommend this class to all of our college bound students.  We feel this course will help maximize our students full potential, and in turn, improve their SAT scores.   Without question, strong SAT scores are vital for the college admissions process.

Again, college readiness is our number one priority at Island Trees High School. If you would like to learn more about the SAT Preparation class, please call the high school guidance office 520-2139 or Island Trees principal, Mr. Nicholas Grande.
