Girl Scouts learn about EMS to always "Be Prepared"

Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corp. visits Brownie Troop 3119.

The Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corp. made a special visit to the East Broadway Girl Scouts Brownie Troop 3119.

Led by 2nd Assistant Chief Diane Kingdon and EMT’s Dalena Tran and Tara Korwan, the Scouts learned how and when to call 9-1-1, how those calls are dispatched to the ambulance corps, and how the members respond to those calls. The girls also learned about the various types of equipment that is carried on the ambulance and what it is used for in emergencies.

The Scouts, led by Troop Leaders Candice Farrell and Kirsten Pawlenko, made their own First Aid Kits and were in the process of earning their First Aid Patch. Each girl received a coloring book about ambulances and became “Junior EMT’s.”
