Hempstead Turnpike Re-Opens Following Gas Leak

Both lanes on Hempstead Turnpike have re-opened as of 1:10 p.m. following a gas main rupture, according to firefighters at the scene.

Hempstead Turnpike at Hamlet Road in Levittown is currently closed in both directions due to a gas leak, police said. 

Nassau County Police issued a traffic advisory at 11:27 a.m. Monday and it is unclear when the Turnpike will re-open. Stay with Patch as more info. becomes available.
