The Island Trees girls JV basketball had an outstanding year, finishing their season with a league record of 12-0 and a total record of 14-1.

Their sole loss came against the Massapequa Chiefs, whose varsity program is ranked 27th in the state. The team averaged 46 points per game and their tenacious defense kept their opponents to an average of just 20 points per game.

Kelly Cembrale led the team in scoring with 194 points in 11 games. Each of the 12 players had an integral part of the team’s success. Michelle Merrill and Alayna Wright put up several points from the outside each game. Alicia Buchanan, Ashley Jones, and Maggie Hastings aided the team with their excellent ball handling skills and unselfish passing.

Defense was led by the aggressive nature of Bridget Lively, Leanna Donahue, Jenna Diognardi, and Katie Paz. Megan Fischer and Corinne Carroll were rebounding machines, always positioning themselves in the right spot to obtain the missed shot.

You can never question the character and effort of this team as cohesion always prevailed and the girls consistently gave 100 percent looking to make the smartest pass to put up the best shot. Great season girls!
