Police: Levittown Man Went On Violent Rampage
Cops: Beats man with table leg, steals car, crashes on Southern State.

A Levittown man has been arrested after police said he broke into a Bethpage home and beat a man inside with a wooden table leg, then hours later stole a car from Auto World in East Meadow and crashed while under the influence of drugs.
At 8:08 a.m. Thursday, police said that Albert C. Garfield, 47, crashed his car into the driveway fence of a Bethpage home, then proceeded to kick in the door of the home, enter and beat a 50-year-old victim with a table leg he brought with him.
The victim suffered multiple contusions and abrasions and was hospitalized for treatment to his head injuries.
Garfield then fled the scene before police arrived. Two hours later, police said Garfield stole a 2007 Kia from a 50-year-old woman waiting to have the car serviced at Auto World, located at 2520 Hempstead Tpke. in East Meadow.

Garfield then fled the scene eastbound on Hempstead Tpke. and was involved in an accident on Hicksville Rd. and the ramp for the Southern State Pkwy. in North Massapequa, according to police.
Officers arrived at the scene and determined that Garfield had been driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Garfield is being charged with first degree burglary, second degree assault, third degree grand larceny, third degree criminal possession of a weapon and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, April 5 at First District Court in Hempstead.
