Levittown Announces Top Career and Technical Students

Story by Liz Sobel.

Continuing the Levittown School District’s tradition of honor and excellence, 31 students were inducted into the Gerald R. Claps Career and Technical Center’s Chapter of the National Technical Honor Society during a candlelight ceremony.

Of these students, 18 are currently enrolled in Levittown School District. This prestigious society honors the best and brightest students enrolled in career and technical education. Selection is based upon careful consideration of a student’s scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

To be inducted into the society, a student must maintain an 88 percent grade point average, display discipline in and outside of the classroom, procure an attendance record with 12 or less absences, and receive a teacher recommendation. Since the chapter’s adoption in 1996-97, the career and technical center has inducted 482 students into the society, including this year’s inductees.

Society advisor Cristy Pastor welcomed the students and their families. “This is the highest award you can earn in this school,” Ms. Pastore stated. “You have received this membership based on your scholarship, leadership, service and character.”

Society President Shujawodin Azizi, Vice President Brenden See, Secretary Jessica Bakeri, and Treasurer Joseph Tobar Oliva were installed prior to the lighting of the candles that symbolize each of the society’s pillars.

The inductees were then called to receive their certificates, pins, and white tassels to be worn at graduation this coming June. After the new inductees collectively cited the society’s pledge, Honorary Member Award recipient Julie Shapiro was announced.

The district would like to congratulate the following Levittown students, who were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society:
