Levittown Fire Department Swears In New Chief

The swearing-in ceremony took place Jan. 1.

LEVITTOWN, NY. — For many Long Islanders Jan. 1 was a time to look ahead, making plans for how this year in their lives might be different from the last. For Levittown Fire Department, it was a day signaling a change in leadership, bringing Matthew Angelletta into his new role as Chief of Department and thanking outgoing chief James Behrens for his eight years of service as chief.

Angelletta was sworn in as the 43rd Chief of Department on Jan. 1, after serving in the Levittown Fire Department for 27 years with the last six coming as deputy chief. Additionally, Daniel Lennon was sworn in as the new third deputy chief, while first and second deputy chiefs Giudice and Kenny retained their roles.

“We look forward to his term in office and continued dedicated leadership,” the department said in a facebook post.

In its own announcement, LFD Ladder Company 6 recognized Behrens for his years of service, thanking the outgoing chief for his, “years of dedication, sacrifice and service.”

“We thank you for everything you have done for this department and wish you continued success in all that lies ahead,” Company 6 said in a statement.

Also sworn in Jan. 1 was Dean Baer, who took over as Commissioner.
