Books On The Menu At Summit Lane Elementary

The elementary school held a restaurant-themed experience in its library in December.

LEVITTOWN, NY. — Summit Lane Elementary students got to try a page-turning tasting menu in December, as the school library transformed into a restaurant for the month, serving up books instead of food.

As part of the transformation, library tables transformed into picnic tables with paper place mats and table covers. Students were then given the chance to peruse the menu of books, choosing whichever story caught their attention. The books were arranged by genre and age range, with students being prompted to review the cover, description and first few pages to see if it was to their liking.

“The exploration of genres some students might not be familiar with helped expand students’
love of reading,” district officials said.
