Levittown Kids Tackle Real-World With Money, Business Lessons
The elementary-schoolers got some free tips on fiscal responsibility that would make Tony Robbins jealous.

LEVITTOWN, NY — While other elementary-schoolers might be out conquering playgrounds, Levittown kids are learning how to conquer the real world. Students at Summit Lane Elementary School on Monday got some free tips on fiscal responsibility that would make Tony Robbins jealous, thanks to 29 bright National Honor Society members from Division Avenue High School.
Honor society members volunteered to join Junior Achievement, a program that provides training, materials and support to teach others about economics and business. High-schoolers visited third, fourth and fifth grade classes and hosted hands-on learning activities.
Third-graders learned city-based people and businesses manage money while fourth-graders learned about natural, human and capital resources found in different regions. Fifth-graders focused on business in a globalized world and the challenges of meeting the demand of the job market. Using real-world applications, students dipped their toes into situations they might very well see in their lifetimes.

"Overall, it was a really great experience getting to work with the students and see them get engaged with the lesson," senior Jacqueline Testamark said. "They learned a lot of helpful information that they are definitely going to use like learning how to write checks. I didn’t get that experience in elementary school and I know that it will help them going forward."
Division Avenue students earned eight hours of community service for their work. They will return to Summit Lane in the spring to teach kids more life lessons, explaining the nature of businesses and how to earn and save money.
