Levittown Native Pitches No-Hitter for Stony Brook Baseball

Stony Brook junior and Levittown native Frankie Vanderka threw his second career no-hitter against Fordham on Saturday, almost two years from throwing his first one as a freshman.

Vanderka struck out six batters and walked three in nine no-hit innings, in the Seawolves 2-0 extra-inning win.

"I just went out there and did what I normally do and stayed down in the zone and attacked the hitters," Vanderka said in a release.

His first no-hitter was thrown against NJIT on March 18, 2011.

Vanderka, a MacArthur HS graduate, threw 102 pitches on the day, 71 for strikes. He improved his record to 1-2 on the young season.

The right-hander was a three year letter winner for MacArthur, earning all-county and all-state selections as a junior. He was also a three year member of the MacArthur honor roll and was named to the National Society of High School Scholars, according to Stony Brook athletics.

Last year, the Seawolves were the first team from the Northeast to reach the College World Series since 1986. Vanderka was a big part of their success in 2012, tossing 6.2 innings of relief against Missouri State to send the Seawolves to the Regional Finals.

Stony Brook will play their first conference game of the season against Maine at home on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
