Public Hearing to Be Held on Proposed Levittown Daycare, Cingular Wireless

Cingular seeks a special use permit to maintain and modify a Levittown facility, while daycare center looks to convert an existing building.

A request for a special exception to convert a building into a daycare center and a request to modify a wireless communication facility for a Cingular Wireless in Levittown are both on the agenda at Wednesday’s Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals hearing.

The Allison Ulin Harmony Early Learning Center is seeking a special exception to convert the building at 148 Center Lane into the daycare center. The building is the former site of the Yours Ours Mine Community Center, which was forced to close in 2009 following an ongoing legal battle, according to an article in the Levittown Tribune. The building's lease was then taken over by the YES Community Center in 2009.

The Harmony Learning Center also seeks to waive off-street parking and a special exception to park in front yard setback. A negative declaration was issued by State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) and a local determination will be made by the Nassau County Planning Commission (NCPC), according to the agenda.

Also on the agenda is a request for a special use permit to maintain and modify a wireless communication facility at 3601 Hempstead Tpke. in Levittown for a new Cingular Wireless. The facility has six antennas on the roof of the existing building, with equipment cabinets in basement.

The public hearing will be held in the Town Meeting Pavilion, Town Hall Plaza, located at One Washington Street, Hempstead. Both cases will be called starting at 2 p.m. View the full agenda online here
