Ring Lights, Front Camera, Action: Wantagh Drama Students Bring Influencer Life To The Stage
The Wantagh High School musical tells the story of a group of young Angelenos trying to make it big on small screens.

WANTAGH, NY. — Wantagh High School students will bring the “For You Page” to the stage later this month in a production of “1660 Vine,” a musical telling the story of a group of social media influencers.
Based off a 2022 film of the same name, "1660 Vine" draws its title from the temporary home of its characters. The film's official website calls it, “an ensemble story of makeup tutorialists, stunt artists, models, pranksters, gamers, vloggers, and musicians who, though each on their own path, have found community in the luxury Hollywood apartment building they (temporarily) call home: 1660 Vine Street."
Theatre Director Dr. Kimberly Davis will be leading the production, noting in a news release that she chose the musical because its content matter is relatable to students that grew up on apps like Vine, Tik Tok and Instagram. Some of that relevance comes into play during performances, as characters simulate “live streams” during the show.

“‘1660 Vine’ captures the reality of growing up in the social media age while celebrating the courage it takes to be authentic and kind in a world that’s always watching,” Davis said. “Our cast and crew have embraced this project with such courage and creativity, and we are very excited to share it with the community.”
Among that cast is Ryan Mundy, a junior who plays an aspiring social media influencer who’s just trying to break into everyone’s timelines.

“I can bring an open mindset to it and make my character 100% original,” Ryan said. “That’s really special.”
Joining him in the cast are sophomore Peyton Berlew — also serving as student director of the production — freshman Emily McHale, Avery Ferrara and Sam Garbowski. In total, it’s a 20-person cast.
“Everyone’s been working so hard,” Peyton said. “We have been taking critiques and
carefully applying them. The more rehearsals we do, the better the characters build.”
The hard work may have gotten a little easier during rehearsals, as “1660 Vine” writer Jackson Prince stopped by to talk to the cast about characters, performances and the creative process.
Performances of “1660 Vine” will take place Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. All performances will be held in the Wantagh High School auditorium, and tickets are available here. They cost $15 for adults and $12 for students.
