Santos Set To Begin 87-Month Sentence: 'I'm Heading To Prison'
The disgraced ex-congressman wrote on X that if anything happens to him in prison, "so there's no confusion. I did not kill myself."
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — As George Santos is about to surrender to authorities for the start of his prison term on federal corruption charges, the disgraced former congressman took to his X account on Wednesday.
Santos told followers that "I’m heading to prison, folks and I need you to hear this loud and clear:
I’m not suicidal. I’m not depressed. I have no intentions of harming myself, and I will not willingly engage in any sexual activity while I’m in there.

I did NOT kill myself."
In April, Santos was sentenced to more than seven years behind bars. At the time, U.S. Attorney John Durham called the sentencing "reasonable and appropriate."
Durham added that Santos "has been held accountable for his years of fraud, deceit and theft."
In Aug. 2024, Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. As part of the plea deal, he was ordered to pay restitution in excess of $373,000 and forfeiture of $205,000, the Department of Justice said.
The 87-prison term is what prosecutors sought, while Santos was seeking two years in prison, the minimum sentence for the identity theft charge.
Judge Joanna Seybert, in her sentencing, called for Santos to surrender by July 25.
