UPDATE: Train Strikes Car, LIRR Suspended on Ronkonkoma Line

Eastbound service on the LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch has been restored between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. Westbound train service between those stations remains suspended following fatal collision this morning between a train and a car on the tracks near the Brentwood station.

Long Island Rail Road service on the Ronkonkoma Branch is currently suspended in both directions from Farmingdale to Ronkonkoma after a train struck a car on the tracks near the Brentwood station, according to the LIRR. 

The accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. There have been no reports of any injuries as of yet. The train was not carrying any passengers, the LIRR said. 

In a statement on its website, the LIRR said that "based on information from previous incidents" service would likely remain suspended on the Ronkonkoma Branch for several hours.

The Ronkonkoma line, which includes nearby Hicksville and Bethpage stops.
