Gov. Andrew Cuomo changed the voting process this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cuomo has warned that the economic effect of the shutdown imposed to curb the outbreak could mean much less money available for state education aid. The state will be assessing and adjusting its budget several times in the course of 2020. Cuomo's last estimate was that state aid would be 20 percent lower than already promised.
Here is the latest 2020-21 draft budget published on the district's website.
- Proposed 2020-21 budget: $227.4 million
- 2019-20 budget: $222.4 million
- Budget increase (dollars): $5 million
- Budget increase (percent): 2.21 percent
- Proposed 2020-21 levy to support budget: $141.7 million
- Proposed 2019-20 levy to support budget: $146.3 million
The budget's second proposition called for authorizing $1.7 million in capital reserve money for improvements, renovations and alterations to district buildings. This includes work related to masonry, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, athletic field repairs, various upgrades, Division Avenue tennis courts and parking lot expansions.
