Will You Support New York Law Opting-Out of Common Core?

New York State legislators and local parents supporting new legislation to withdraw from the national Race to the Top initiative.

A grassroots effort by parents has sparked some New York State lawmakers to draft legislation to withdraw from a national education standards program, freeing students from what many consider an overreliance on testing and data collection rather than teaching.

The proposed legislation comes in the aftermath of many Wantagh and Seaford parents voicing frustration at increased testing in schoolsthis spring with some having their children opt out of the assessments.

Tuesday’s press conference was sparked initially by the Facebook group, "Parents and Teachers Against the Common Core," which has more than 2,200 followers. The group’s administrators were personally involved in drafting the new proposed legislation being introduced.
