Wisdom Lane Middle School Students Celebrate Moving-Up Day
Big turnout at graduation ceremony for eighth grade Levittown students.
Sixth and seventh-grade band members at Wisdom Lane Middle School in the Levittown School District played “Pomp and Circumstance” as the eighth-grade graduates proceeded down the aisles of the school’s auditorium in ceremonial tradition for Moving-Up Day, flanked by parents and family members looking on with pride.
Eighth-grade officer Jessica Fressle led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the eighth-grade chorus singing the national anthem.
In his opening remarks, Principal John Avena shared a story of a handicapped boy who became a scholar-athlete and a member of the Green Bay Packers.

“Remember this story as you navigate through high school,” Mr. Avena advised. “Not every day will be easy, but anything can be possible.”
Guest speaker and Division Avenue High School Principal Dr. Francesco Ianni told the students he could not promise that high school would be easy; however, “I can promise you the staff will be there for you and that you will feel like a part of a family in a few short days,” he assured.

Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes told the graduates that their grandparents and parents are their GPS for the future, and to listen to their advice.
Division Avenue High School Student Council President Ellen Chaleff remarked that high school is about opportunities, while eighth-grade officers Sophia DeFranco and James Lunetta shared with the audience how their years at Wisdom Lane had prepared them to move forward to the high school. In addition, officers Jessica Fressle and Bhavi Kadakia presented a monetary class gift for the school’s food pantry.
After the eighth-grade chorus, directed by Carol Spainer, sang “Corner of the Sky,” each student proceeded to the stage to receive his or her certificate.
