COPIAGUE, NY — A 13-year-old was arrested and charged on Monday, after he threatened on social media to shoot people at his school, Suffolk County Police said.

The teen posted in a social media group chat that if the school was in session on Oct. 24, he would shoot the teachers and students at Copiague Middle School, police said.

The post was shared by multiple students and a parent notified school officials who called police.

The teenager was charged with making a threat of mass harm at 5:35 a.m., police said.

He will be arraigned in Suffolk County Family Court at a later date.
