St. John's Finishes Thanksgiving Food Drive, Begins Holiday Toy Drive
More than 50 baskets of food were being distributed Tuesday to the community by the Lindenhurst church, which will begin its holiday toy drive on Thursday.
Lutheran Church's annual Thanksgiving food drive yielded more than 50 baskets of food given, which were given back to those in need in the community on Tuesday morning.
However, the Lindenhurst church's food drive isn't quite finished yet. The church will be accepting donations until Thursday. Then it'll begin its holiday toy drive for Christmas.
"We had about a 20 percent increase in donations from last year," said Bob Stein, director of the church's food pantry. "We could always use donations, food is very tight."

The church also held its Thanksgiving Feast on Sunday, which featured lunch, crafts, games and music for the community. Â

Another Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Thursday, which is open to the public. It's recommended that people call ahead before arrival.
The Thanksgiving food drive effort is one of several the church has throughout the year, and every Friday evening it has a community supper from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The holiday drive will not only collect toys for children in need, but it'll also collect turkeys and other food, much like the one for Thanksgiving. All items will be distributed the Wednesday and Thursday before Christmas this year. Â All who wish to help must sign up, and present a form of ID and address.
One of the supporters for the Thanksgiving and holiday food drives the church holds is Lindenhurst-based Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley.
"Legislator Horsley has given the church a lot support. He's been a big help with the food pantry, which helps us give back to the community," said Stein.
