September 2 Lindy Edition: Labor Day Weekend

TGIF, Lindy! It’s been a long week, given the aftermath of Irene. Many still don’t have power and damage to their homes from downed trees and flooding, but hopefully we can take this holiday weekend to relax and reflect.

And here are of a South Shore beach and images from to brighten your day.

Now, here’s what you need to know today and through the weekend:

1. Irene robbed us of one of the last summer weekends in Lindenhurst, and with Labor Day on Monday it’s the unofficial end to summer. Plus, as of Wednesday the kids are back to school. So whatever you do, make this weekend count! And, remember, when reflecting on this summer: Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

2. is having a tasting at 4 p.m. and at 4 p.m.

3. Labor Day is a federal holiday, so that means government offices like Babylon Town and the Memorial Library and the LIRR and the Long Island Bus Service will run a Sunday schedule on Monday.

4. The Town of ’s rescheduled annual is set to start on Saturday at 3 p.m. The made the call ahead of Irene to postpone the by one week.

5. The Book Swap at the LML is now in progress for the month of September. Bring in books from home to trade, one for one, with books brought in by others.

6. There’ll also be a Back to School Fest featuring a free basketball clinic (registration required) for ages 10 to 18 presented by the town on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Bolden Mack Park on Great Neck Road in Amityville. See the town’s website for more details.

7. The #1421 will have its steak night tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. And because of the holiday, there’ll be no meeting on Monday.
