LINDENHURST, NY — The memory of a beloved Long Island woman is living on in Lindenhurst after a street renaming that took place earlier this week.

The life and legacy of Michele Insinga was honored with the renaming of W. Venetian Promenade in Lindenhurst to Michele Insinga Memorial Way.

Insinga's family attended the ceremony along with Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Anthony Manetta, Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey and Village of Lindenhurst Deputy Mayor RJ Renna.

According to Babylon officials, Insinga was a "devoted wife, mother, grandmother and tireless community advocate whose compassion, strength and leadership inspired all who knew her."

In a statement, officials said that she became a beacon of hope for countless families following Superstorm Sandy while leading Adopt a House—a grassroots recovery group that helped rebuild homes, secure aid and fight for the rights of storm victims.

But her advocacy didn’t stop there, officials said. Insinga also "worked tirelessly" to promote flood mitigation, fair insurance policies and homeowner protections, "paving the way for a more resilient South Shore."

In addition, she was "instrumental" in passing the Home Improvement Fraud Prevention Act, which safeguards families from predatory contractors and unethical practices, officials said.

"Through it all, Michele brought warmth, kindness and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her legacy lives on not only in the policy changes she championed, but in the lives she touched and the community she helped rebuild," officials said in a statement. "We are proud to ensure Michele’s name and spirit remain a permanent part of our town."
