"Blue Moon" Shines Down Brightly Over Lindenhurst
Astronomical phenomenon lights up the sky with one of the season's brightest full moons.

Lindenhurst residents might have been humming the tune of the Frank Sinatra classic "Blue Moon" on Tuesday night as our area encountered a clear sky during a rare astronomical phenomenon.
A "blue moon" has nothing to do with color, per se, but rather the occurrence of the Moon at its full phase appearing twice in a single month.
The phenomenon is rare – usually only occurring once every two to three years.
The August 2013 version came with an added feat – it was the third full moon in what will be four for the Summer. Seasons usually only feature three full moon phases.
That phenomenon happens, of course, only "once in a blue moon."
Thanks to Kathy Chernick Yodice for sending us a shot from Lindenhurst last night.
