Civil War Soldiers To Come To Life From Graves At LI Cemetery Tour
A self-guided tour will allow visitors to learn about its Civil War soldiers — from their graves and from re-enactors.

LINDENHURST, NY — The Village of Lindenhurst is getting in the Halloween spirit for its centennial anniversary.
On Saturday, Oct. 28 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Lindenhurst Historical Society will sponsor a self-guided tour of Breslau Cemetery, featuring Civil War re-enactors.
A total of 33 Civil War veterans were laid to rest in the cemetery, the society said.

Some were even present at Appomattox, and were witnesses to General Lee’s surrender to General Grant, which ended the four-year-long American Civil War.
Nearly 40 Civil War veterans called Lindenhurst home, the society said.

To help visitors envision what life was like for Civil War soldiers, veterans and civilians, the 119th New York Willis Company H. Civil War living historians along with Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) re-enactors, will be on hand to provide context and authenticity to help educate and inform visitors about the Civil War.
Graves of the Civil War Veterans will be designated with markers providing their biographical background and experience, the society said. Docents will be available to assist visitors.
The tour will be in coordination with the village's centennial and the society's 75th anniversary.
