Duffy's Ale House to Reopen on Monday

Owners planning to reopen restaurant after legal issues closed it last week.

Duffy's Ale House, the popular Lindenhurst restaurant that was closed down in the middle of last week by the New York State Department of Taxation, has announced the eatery will reopen for business on Monday.

A hand-written sign was placed over the doors to the business, noting the restaurant owners' intent to reopen on Monday.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance seized Duffy’s Ale House on Wednesday afternoon for non-payment of taxes, closing the eatery down to the public.

By late afternoon Wednesday, bright orange signs that read “SEIZED” in bright orange along with two other documents from the Department of Taxation, hung on the doors.

“This property has been seized for nonpayment of taxes, and is now in the possession of the State of New York,” one sign read.

Duffy’s, located at 95 East Hoffman Avenue, is a local staple in Lindenhurst, known for its assortment of chicken wings and beers.

While owner Gene Arnold would not give any details about the situation to Patch when met at the restaurant Wednesday afternoon, Arnold later emailed to say the business could reopen soon, planning then as early as Thursday afternoon. The restaurant, however, was in the dark throughout the weekend.

Lindenhurst Patch readers were notably upset by the news, noting Arnold's good deeds for the community in the past.

"I am very saddened by this news," wrote Brooke Brown. "Gene has been nothing but generous to this town and is such a caring person. I hope to see Duffy's up and running soon."

"Gene and his staff were so generous to everyone in the wake of Superstorm Sandy they even held a fundraiser for Chuck Burgio on Friday night," wrote Corinna Knott-Reyes. "I hope the community can help Gene out (if that's what he needs)."
