Jewish Businessman Who Owned Bottling Company Honored At Suffolk Park
The businessman was remembered for his legacy on Amityville Village.

AMITYVILLE VILLAGE, NY — A beloved Amityville Village resident is being remembered for his legacy within his community.
Jacob Hartmann's Pond at Peterkin Park was named after Jacob Hartmann on Sunday, Amityville Village posted on social media.
Hartmann, who died in 1922, owned and operated Suffolk County Bottle Works, a bottling company and ice company in Amityville Village.

Officials said that the naming was a "wonderful remembrance" of the local Jewish businessman.
The naming project was made by a partnership of Hartmann's descendants, and the Jewish Historical Society of LI.

"We are proud to now have the Jacob Hartmann historical marker at Peterkin Park to recognize the contributions of this prominent business owner and to preserve our Village history," said Mayor Dennis M. Siry to Patch in a statement. "When we were asked for the go-ahead on the project, it was a no-brainer for us. This is a great tribute not only for Jacob's family but for the Jewish community as a whole."
