LINDENHURST, NY — Local girl scouts are living up to their slogan, "Do a good turn daily."

Girl Scout Troop 3823 was honored with a Bronze Award Project in the Lindenhurst community by installing a Little Food Pantry at the Rainbow Senior Citizens Community Center.

The Little Food Pantry, which operates like a library—but with food instead of books—is there to help anyone facing food insecurity stock their pantries with dry and canned goods.

“The Little Food Pantry is a fantastic idea and will be a blessing to many individuals and families," said Mayor Michael Lavorata. "I thank Troop 3823 for their hard work and for this contribution to our Lindenhurst community.”

Here's how it works: using the honor system, the food items are intended for those genuinelyin need. While the Girl Scout Troop will monitor and continue to supply food items, Lindenhurst residents are welcome to donate food items. Dry goods and canned goods can be dropped off at the Rainbow Center, located at 293 Buffalo Avenue in Lindenhurst.
