Lindy Basketball in Playoffs as Other Athletes Shine
Lindenhurst Superintendent Richard Nathan offers a rundown of recent LHS sports accolades at the most recent Board of Education meeting on February 15.
Lindy Pride will be in full force this Presidents' Day weekend as both the and teams compete in the first round of playoffs.
Coached by Greg Flynn, the girls' ended its undefeated, topping with a record of 14-0. Seeded in second place, the will host the winner of this Friday's matchup between Bellport and on , February 20, at , at .
"We'll be closed for Winter recess next week, but we'll be open for that," Superintendent Richard Nathan told the crowd at the Board of Education Community Forum on Wednesday night at .

He was happy to give the community this playoff news, as well as share the rundown of recent accolades Lindenhurst sports teams and athletes have garnered at the end of the Winter season.
Coached by Bret Kearney, the boys' ended its season in second place behind in , with a record of 11-3. Seeded in eighth place, the will host Smithtown East on , February 18, at , at .

The news for both teams' accomplishments and entry into the playoffs was met with clapping and smiles.
Nathan continued his sports report by noting that LHS Junior Josh Sposito - from the Varsity Boys Bowling team coached by Mike Cucciniello - has been ranked fourth in Suffolk County after competing in the 2011-12 Section XI High School Bowling County Championships on February 4 at Sayville Lanes.
Sposito also qualified for the NYSPHSAA Bowling Championship, Valley Bowling Center in Waverly (Sec IV) on March 3 and 4.
Next came the news that the in the country at the two-day National High School Cheerleading Championship () on at Walt Dinsey World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Coached by Michele Corcoran and Anne Wishniak, the competed against 27 teams in the category of Division I, Supervarsity, Schools with more than 1,600 Students. And the team came in first out of all of the New York state teams that competed, noted Nathan.
The Varsity Boys Swimming and Diving - coached by Brian Washington (swimming) and Tom Cornellia (diving) - also placed third in the recent League Championship, and had four of its players qualify for Section XI Championships at SCCC (Brentwood Campus) on Saturday, February 18.
Three of them are the team's divers, (according to Lindenhurst Patch reader Gloria; see comments, below).
A.J. Seara of the Varsity Winter Boys Track team and of the Varsity Winter Girls Track team both qualified to compete at the NYSPHSAA Championship at Barton Hall, Cornell University in Ithaca (Sec IV) on March 3.
Seara also earned all-county honors, noted Nathan.
The boys team is coached by George Smawley, and the girls team is coached by Steve Gosline.
Last, but not least, Nathan announced that Keith Meisner of the Varsity Boys Wrestling team joined the Suffolk County Century Club with 105 career wins. Meisner and the team are coached by Ron Frole.
Meisner has joined several other Lindy alumni in the Club, including Lenny Fries (1993, 118 wins), Steve Sebastopoli (2000, 125), Tom Sforza (2002, 101), Chris Lahn (2005, 100), Sean Walsh (2010, 107) and Evan Wildberger (2011, 101).
