Breach Preachers
New Lindenhurst blogger Rich H. is troubled by people who claim the new Fire Island breach is cleaning the Great South Bay while not raising water levels.

He asked readers whether or not it's unreasonable to think both things are happening at the same time.
"Isn’t at least a part of the moderating effect that a barrier beach provides is lost when some of that barrier is lost?" he wrote. "The South Shore people who've experienced unprecedented flooding since Hurricane Sandy have a right to feel skeptical when told there's no correlation between the breach and the extreme tides."

IRS: Get Credit for Making Your Home Energy-Efficient
IRS blogger Dianne Besunder noted in her tax tips blog this week that if you made your home more energy efficient last year, then you may qualify for a tax credit on your 2012 federal income tax return.
"You may claim a credit of 10 percent of the cost of certain energy saving property that you added to your main home. This includes the cost of qualified insulation, windows, doors and roofs," Besunder wrote about the Non-Business Energy Property Credit.

Jackie Connelly-Fornuff recently posted about how because of a lack of inventory in Lindenhurst, the beginnings of a sellers' market is happening. But prices aren't rising yet.
"We need to see more homes sell above list price and we are not quite there. It will be a long time before we get back to 2004/2005 prices," wrote Connelly-Fornuff, who's an agent with Century 21 AA Realty.
Connelly-Fornuff also posted the weekly home sale report for the period ending March 31.
"Little by little we are seeing homes selling at list price since January 1st, 2013. We are also seeing homes going under contract quickly," she wrote.

Texting and Driving Survey Says Adults are Worse Than Teens
Local blogger Ellen Webner wrote this week about a recent survey taken that showed adults, not teenagers, might be worse when its comes to texting and driving. The poll, taken by wireless carrier AT&T, found more adults are admitting to having done so than even just three years ago.
"While there are many public efforts to raise the awareness of the dangers of texting while driving, 98 percent of commuters surveyed said they know sending a text or e-mail while driving isn’t safe," she wrote.
Can a Marriage Survive an Affair? (A Three-Part Series)
Blogger and relationship coach Cindi Sansone-Braff wrote in this first part about why extramarital affairs are on the rise.
"Because of the clandestine nature of affairs, no one knows the exact percentages of people who have engaged in them. The first statistics began in the 1940s and 1950s with the Kinseys' reports, and in those reports the findings were that by age 40, 50 percent of men and 26 percent of women had engaged in an extramarital affair. Affair estimates today range anywhere from 50 to 70 percent for both sexes. Let’s face it: The numbers are irrelevant because we all know it happens a lot," she wrote.
She went on to list five reasons why extramarital affairs are on the rise.

He went on to offer a few tips to help make the big decision.

Hickman, who said she dedicates much of her time these days to volunteering and not using makeup, was treated to a 1.5 hour session and gave her pros and cons on the event. One of her drawbacks?
"On a daily basis I work with people who are in dire need of soap. Food. Infant formula. Toothpaste. Socks. What kind of insensitive moron would I have to be to spend $62 on something called Pearlescent Eye Illuminator?" she wrote.
