Caroline Rakus-Wojciechowski will represent the Class of 2013 as valedictorian. She attended Lindenhurst Schools throughout her school years and will be attending Harvard University in the fall where she will pursue a degree in her quest to become a neurosurgeon.

Caroline has held leadership positions in various clubs, including serving as president of the Interact Club, secretary of the Key Club, secretary of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, treasurer of the National Art Honor Society and president of the Chamber Orchestra.

She is also involved with the Guidance Advisory Board, the Science Club, Robotics Team 533, History Bowl, the International Thespian Society, marching band and jazz band.

Caroline also served as captain of the varsity tennis team and the high jump captain of the varsity track and field team, where she received varsity letters.

“One of the highlights of my high school years was when I was accepted as Mr. Castellano’s first and only independent study student,” explained Caroline. “I was honored to become his first lab technician.”

Outside of school, Caroline participated in a Locks of Love campaign as a hair donor, and in a symphonic orchestra and a teen band. She is also active at OLPH church and has received many awards and distinctions. She is an ambassador with the National Society of High School Scholars and is an Advanced Placement with Distinction honoree.

She has participated in National and Global Young Leadership conferences and was the recipient of the Presidential Service Award and the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Award.

“I attribute my success to my autistic sister, Natalie, who has given me inspiration to do my part in the world to help others, and for those like Natalie to be better understood,” said Caroline. “She has given me a chance to view life from a different perspective, as well as a higher level of responsibility.”
