Lindenhurst Man With Prior DWAI Conviction Arrested Saturday: Police

Suffolk police said the 26-year-old did not obey an officer's commands.

LINDENHURST, NY — A 26-year-old Lindenhurst resident faces multiple charges after a traffic stop at 9:49 p.m. Saturday.

Police said an officer observed a man driving a 1999 Nissan — and failing to stay in one lane — on Montauk Highway.

After being stopped at Walnut Avenue in Lindenhurst, he wouldn't stop reaching around inside the car, or get out of the vehicle and put his hands behind his back, despite the officer's commands, police said.

A check of records found the driver, identified as Jake Layton, had a prior conviction for driving while impaired by drugs in 2018, police said.

A search after his arrest found him in possession of Oxycodone, police said.

Layton faces charges of DWAI with prior conviction, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.
