Lindenhurst Pizzeria Owner Cited As Local Hero: Here’s Why

LINDENHURST — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Lori-Ann Novello who nominated Vinny Costanza of Lindenhurst.

Lori nominated Vinny for his outstanding volunteer work with Lindy Cares, a local non-profit that helps to prevent underage substance or alcohol misuse.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

Lindy Cares is a 501 c3 organization whose mission is to create environments where everyone believes they can thrive to prevent underage substance or alcohol misuse. Every year for the past five years, Vinny donates upwards of 55 to 65 pizza pies to our Trick or Trunk Event, which draws 600 to 1,200 guests.

Vinny is always ready to "feed" his community while serving as a good role model for young people. Trick or Treating for Pizza (and candy, too) has become a tradition in our community, showing kids that there are plenty of ways to have fun that do not involve substances.

Vinny's wife, an executive at a local bank, dresses up like a slice of pizza to serve the kids. You can guess that this is not the only initiative they are involved in. This commitment of funds, time, and energy is impressive, but the love, fun, and friendship make the proprietors of Mr. G's Pizza hidden local heroes.
