Lindenhurst Residents To Learn About NYF Projects At Public Workshop

The projects are a part of its $4.5 million NY Forward grant, which aims to revitalize downtown areas.

LINDENHURST, NY — A public workshop will be held on Tuesday evening, for residents to give input about potential projects that will support the downtown Lindenhurst.

The Public Workshop #2 which take place at Lindenhurst Middle School Gymnasium, located at 350 South Wellwood Avenue from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m, will allow residents to learn about projects and improvements that will help the downtown area and to support its "vibrant" economy.

The grand is funded through the NY Forward program (NYF), which was launched in 2022 to support downtown revitalization for New York’s smaller communities, with a focus on hamlets, villages, and neighborhood-scale commercial centers.

Lindenhurst is one of the two winners in the Long Island region.

With technical assistance provided by the State and guidance from a Local Planning Committee and the public, Lindenhurst will develop a Strategic Investment Plan that identifies specific projects that align with a unique vision for revitalization of the downtown area.

The NYF planning process is led by a Local Planning Committee comprised of local and regional leaders, stakeholders, and community representatives intended to represent diverse interests.

The Lindenhurst projects will take place from the Village Core to the LIRR station, retail, recreation, residences, and more. Its boundary includes the main thoroughfares of West/East Hoffman Avenue and North/South Wellwood Avenue, and extends to South 5th St to the west and North Alleghany Avenue to the east.

The northernmost section of the boundary extends to Hartford Street, and the southernmost section extends to Irving Avenue.
