Lindy Football Falls to Floyd in Season Opener

Defending Long Island Champions rally back to down Bulldogs in season opener.

The Lindenhurst Bulldogs varsity football team had the lead, and victory, snatched away from them by the defending Long Island Champion William Floyd Colonials, 34-22.

The Bulldogs started things off on a good note in the first quarter with quarterback Sean Varela throwing a five-yard touchdown to give Lindy an early 7-0 lead. Floyd quickly answered back in the second with a touchdown of their own, but missed the extra-point kick and left the Bulldogs with a 7-6 lead.

Lindenhurst pushed right back with a 54-yard pass and run by Nick Soriano, giving the Bulldogs a 13-6 lead headed into half-time.

The Colonials answered right back after the half, though, pushing across two touchdowns during the third quarter along with a two-point conversion for a 21-13 lead.

William Floyd sealed the deal during the fourth with two more touchdowns. A late Lindenhurst rally on another 27-yard touchdown pass to Soriano fell short as the Bulldogs suffered defeated in the first game of the year, 34-22.

The Lindenhurst Bulldogs will open their home schedule next weekend with a home game against Ward Melville at 6 p.m.
