That's what Lindenhurst Superintendent Richard Nathan told those in attendance at the most recent Lindenhurst Board of Education meeting on .

He urged people to vote for Lisa Alvarado's home holiday decorations in Patch's Deck the House .

The ' house on Heathcote Road in Lindenhurst made it to the finalists in the , and if it wins, then Lindy Schools would receive $100,000 from Patch.com.

According to Nathan, “In a time of budget uncertainty, $100,000 would go a long way in helping to preserve programs and services for the children of Lindenhurst.”

Indeed, back in November he sent out what he characterized as an "" to the community, since the district could be facing significant cuts in the face of the new put in place by New York state back in June of last year.

“We wanted you to have this information,” Nathan told the crowd in the modestly filled auditorium on November 16.

He then outlined some significant cuts to program and staff the district is now facing as a result of the tax cap - which requires any budget increase to limit the property tax levy to less than two percent or CPI (Consumer Price Index, whichever is less).

He told the modestly filled room at the McKenna Administration Building on January 4 that winning $100,000 is important as the district heads into the budget season this year for next school year.

"One hundred thousand dollars is not chicken feed. We could use it," Nathan said.
