LIRR Offers Extra Trains for Saint Patrick’s Day

Alcoholic beverages not permitted on trains, at stations, including Lindenhurst, or platforms, note officials.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is providing 19 extra trains - nine westbound and ten eastbound - for those traveling to and from the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 17.

The additional trains will supplement the LIRR’s regular weekend schedule. (See below for the extra trains scheduled for the Babylon Branch, which runs through Lindenhurst.)

In an effort to maintain orderly travel for our customers on St. Patrick's Day, the LIRR has advised customers not to bring any alcoholic beverages, open or closed, on trains, platforms and stations on March 17.

The alcohol ban will continue through 4 a.m. on March 18.

Any alcoholic beverages will be confiscated by MTA Police, said LIRR officials in a press release about the extra Saint Patrick's Day train service. In addition, officials said LIRR bar carts won't be in operation on Saint Paddy's Day.

LIRR officials have also advised riders to purchase round-trip tickets - including MetroCards for connecting subway and bus service - in advance in order to save time and avoid lines at LIRR and New York City Transit ticket windows and ticket machines.

Since the Parade is on a Saturday, off-peak fares are in effect all day – including the special Family Fare discount and CityTicket, noted LIRR officials.

Following are the additional trains on the Babylon line, which stops at :

Westbound to Penn Station
Babylon Branch

  • Two trains leave Wantagh at 8:54 a.m. and 9:54 a.m., making all local stops through Lynbrook, then Saint Albans, Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Penn Station.
  • The 10:29 a.m. train from Wantagh is making all local stops through Lynbrook, then Jamaica and Penn Station.

Eastbound from Penn Station
Babylon Branch

  • Three trains depart Penn Station at 2:28 p.m., 2:55 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. , stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica and Lynbrook, then all local stops to Babylon.

Deaf or hard-of-hearing customers could use their preferred relay service provider for the free 711 relay to reach LIRR at 511.
