Long Island Man and Dog Dead After Getting Hit by Car: Police

A dog and a pedestrian were killed in an Amityville car crash on Wednesday morning, police say.

AMITYVILLE, NY — A pedestrian and his dog were killed in a car crash in Amityville Wednesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Roy Mathes, 52, of Amityville, was walking his dog at the intersection of Broadway and Louden Avenue when he was struck by a 1999 Acura traveling northbound on Broadway around 6:30 a.m., police said.

The dog died on scene while Mathes was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the Acura's driver, Kirkland Salmon, 47, of Amityville, was not injured. The Acura was impounded for a safety check.
