Man, 79, Dies In Suffolk Crash: Police
The crash took place early Saturday morning, police say.
COPIAGUE, NY — An Amityville man died in a crash in Copiague early Saturday morning, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, the crash took place at about 5:40 a.m. Harold Deters, 79, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Montauk Highway when the vehicle crossed over into the opposite lane and struck an eastbound 2013 Ford Escape at the intersection of South Emerson Avenue, police said.
Deters was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the Ford — a woman, 66 — and her passenger, 42, both from West Babylon, were transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
