Man Hit And Killed By Truck On Long Island: Police

A man walking with his bike was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Long Island on Thursday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

LINDENHURST, NY — A pedestrian was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Long Island on Thursday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Mariano Diaz-Pichardo, 60, of Lindenhurst, was walking his bike across Sunrise Highway at the intersection of Buffalo Avenue when his bicycle was struck by a Hino box truck attempting to avoid him, police said.

Diaz-Pichardo was then struck by a Ford F550 around 9:10 a.m., police said.

He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the driver of the box truck, Manuel Lucero-Lucero, 30, of Bay Shore, and the driver of the Ford, Steven Mitchell, 54, of Ronkonkoma, were not injured and the Motor Carrier Safety Section conducted safety checks of the vehicles.
