Monthly Crime Report: Lindenhurst Woman Arrested for Burglary

Police say that Jennifer Molfetta stole jewelry and cash from a home on South Sixth Street in Lindenhurst. Police also continue to investigate the recent shooting at Lefty's Bar and the vandalism done to the 9/11 Canine Memorial Statue last May.

After a relatively quiet holiday period, the Suffolk County Police First Precinct resumed its monthly community meeting at its location on Route 109 just after the new year.

The big news out of the precinct, according to Inspector Gerard Gigante, was that it made a quick arrest in the case of a burglary that happened on December 16 in Lindenhurst on South Sixth Street.

According to police, jewelry and some cash were stolen from the house after a suspect entered the home via a basement door in the afternoon.

Gigante told Lindenhurst Patch that following an investigation police arrested , 39, of Lindenhurst, on December 19, and charged her with burglary in the second degree.

As for the at in Lindenhurst in which a West Babylon man was shot outside of the bar on December 18 while attempting to intervene in a fight, Gigante said the investigation by detectives is on-going.

"And anyone with any information about the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS," he said.

Gigante also told Patch that while several leads have been investigated in the vandalism incident where the in the back on , none of them have led to an arrest yet.

"The Detective Commander is still hopeful, and we'd definitely like to see an arrest in that case," Gignate said.

Police are continuing to investigate a series of , which was becoming a crime trend across the Long Island region, according to the SCPD.

However, in the past month, "commercial burglaries have leveled off and were below average for December in the precinct," Gigante said. "We saw some rooftop burglaries at the beginning of December, but haven't seen any in the past three or four weeks."

The the police have also been investigating within the precinct has come down, but they're still occurring, Gigante said.

The most vulnerable are those walking or riding their bikes while using their smartphones and iPods, he said.

Gigante further noted that there were no stolen cars in Lindenhurst or North Lindenhurst in the past month.

Other notable arrests in the precinct included that of , both from Lindenhurst, who, police said, were holding packages that were recently reported stolen from the front of homes in Lindenhurst.

Suffolk Police also arrested , both from Lindenhurst, for allegedly spray-painting the exterior of a building that houses the Farmingdale First Baptist Church in North Amityville on New Year's Eve.

is also in effect within the precinct, in Wyandanch and North Amityville, Gigante said.

 

Every month the First Precinct holds a monthly community meeting, and provides residents and local civic organizations insight on recent crimes, current trends and any new information relating to the Suffolk Police Department (SCPD).

The next meeting will be held February 2 at 7 p.m. at the precinct, which is located on Route 109.
