Pomara Visits Lindenhurst Students
Marine pays back first graders who wrote to him while in boot camp.
Marine and Lindenhurst graduate Matthew Pomara recently visited first grade students from Lisa Cognatos’ class at Albany Avenue Elementary School in the Lindenhurst school district.
For Patriots Day in September, students wrote letters to the Marine and his fellow recruits, then stationed on Parris Island in South Carolina. They thanked them for intending to serve their country and also to provide support during the difficult period of boot camp training.
Pomara, now a Marine, and home on a short leave before being stationed, took the time to visit the students to say thank you and tell them what those letters meant to him and the other recruits. The students demonstrated their gratitude by reciting patriotic poetry and presenting pictures to the Marine, who read to them from a book about veterans and answered questions about his experience at boot camp.
